We’ve posed this question to our very own travel and lifestyle experts, some of whom are award-winning travel consultants. We invite you to send us your favorite destinations, too – whether it’s somewhere you go to every year, or a place you dream of visiting – we would love to hear from you!

Submit your favorite destination by sending an email to marketing@lindentravel.com. Tell us why you love that particular place and send photos if you can.  If you inspire us with your story, we’ll post your favorite place in this blog  and  send you a special “thank you” gift.

Over the next 5 weeks we’ll review all of the nominations and post the top five for each of these categories:

  • Romantic Retreats
  • Getaways in the United States
  • Golf & Spa Destinations
  • Island Escapes
  • Exotic Places

We will publish our first top 5 list of favorite places starting next week. Until then, inspire us with your stories, keep reading…and, Happy Earth Day!

Summer Getaway Idea: Montreal’s Jazz Festival 30th Anniversary

By Jessica Burneston

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the annual Jazz fest in Montreal.  The festival will run from July 1 – 12, 2009 and will include 3,000 artists from 30 countries.  The Festivals website lists more than 650 concerts including 450 free outdoor performances.

Many Montreal hotels are offering packages with exceptional value.  There is still space available, but most hotels will sell out during the festival, so if the Jazz fest makes your “must-do” list for the summer, book early for the best selection.

Getting there can also be fun!  Of course, there are convenient short flights to Montreal by several major airlines, but another idea for New Yorkers is to take a train to the festival.  The Montrealer, leaves New York’s Penn station daily and travels through the Adirondack mountains for breathtaking scenery.  The trip is considered one of the most scenic train trips in North America and is considered a green mode of transportation.

Speaking of being green, the Montreal Jazz Fest is carbon neutral.  An independent company calculates the CO2 emissions of everything associated with the festival, and then that carbon is off-set by donating to environmental projects.

Passports are required for entry into Canada.  Passport cards and enhanced driver’s licenses are also accepted.  However, regular driver’s licenses will no longer be accepted for travel to Canada after June 1, 2009.

It’s not too early to start planning for the holiday season.  Holiday travelers know that space filles up quickly and the best value is obtained by booking early.  If you haven’t made holiday plans, here’s an idea… Want a quick and easy holiday getaway? Try a mini, 3 day cruise on the Ruby Princess departing from Fort Lauderdale.

Departing on Monday, December 14 and Thursday, December 17, 2009, the new getaways each offer a call at the line’s private island, Princess Cays – an exclusive beach resort offering a day of relaxation and water sports.

Launched in November 2008, the 3,080-passenger Ruby Princess features the line’s most popular new features including a dramatic piazza-style atrium with small-bite eateries and an ever-changing line-up of street performers. Passengers will also enjoy an array of dining venues including the signature Sabatini’s Italian restaurant and the Crown Grill steak house, plus the new Wheelhouse Bar pub lunch. The ship offers many other Princess innovations including the relaxing adults-only oasis called The Sanctuary, the poolside Movies Under the Stars experience, and a unique behind-the-scenes option called the Ultimate Ship Tour.

Fares for these sailings begin at $249 for the December 14 departure, and $299 for the December 17 cruise.  Call your Linden Travel consultant for details at 800 846 3226 or email request@lindentravel.com.
