Jackson Kagea
In 2008, Linden Travel gave the gift of opportunity to a very special person when we sponsored 12-year-old Jackson Kagea, from Mikuru, Kenya. Mikuru is a large slum outside of Nairobi, where most families do not have enough to eat nor access to adequate shelter. Young Jackson was facing a life of poverty and was at risk for a number of health problems, due to lack of nutritious food and medication. He made the best of his life and was thankful for what little he had. He dedicated himself to his studies and enjoyed going to school, but he could not afford the luxuries of books and school supplies. Although he was a bright child and a good student, he faced a highly uncertain future.
However, his life changed in January 2008, when the employees of Linden Travel joined together to raise money to send Jackson to a reputable boarding school. Through America Share, a non-profit arm of Micato Safaris, Linden Travel sponsored Jackson’s education through age eighteen, providing a secure future.
In his new boarding school, Jackson studies in a safe and happy environment, with excellent teachers. In addition, his room and board is included, so he has access to the books, materials, food and clothing he needs.
Now, a year later, we Jackson is excelling in his studies. In a recent letter Jackson writes, “I am so happy because it is a very good school. My Favorite classes are geography and arithmetic. I also like football and music. It is cool and wet in Kenya. What about America? How is the weather? Thank you all so very much for sponsoring me. I will come to Linden one day and enjoy meeting you all. Yours Faithfully, Jackson Kagea.”
We are very proud of Jackson Kagea and we know that this gift, the gift of opportunity, will empower Jackson to live a life beyond the poverty he has known. Good Luck, Jackson!
