An American in Paris

I decided to run away to Paris…

Plaza Athenee, Paris

Plaza Athenee, Paris

Heading down Avenue Montaigne, the signature red of the Plaza Athenee Hotel caught my eyes immediately.  This was my first visit to the hotel and it was everything that I thought it would be: romantic, playful, and grand.  Stepping into the hotel’s elegant lobby, I was immediately greeted by the sight of the giant Christmas tree, I felt like a little girl all over again.

The Plaza´s old-world charm is unforgettable.  Stepping into the hotel is almost like being in a different world altogether.  It breathes elegance without being “stuffy”, and despite its size, everything about the hotel is intimate and absolutely, breathtakingly, lovely.  Extravagant in all the right places and as cozy and welcoming as your grandmum´s home (that is, if the dear lady is the perfect blend of Carla Bruni and Julia Child), The Plaza is truly unlike anything else in the world.

If you have a chance to visit the Plaza, please, please enjoy a meal or two at the hotel as a part of your Parisian dining experience.  This hotel is peppered with five elegant restaurants; my personal favorite is the Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athenee.  The service is second to none and the decor by Patrick Jouin is inspiring.  The chandeliers are a must see, with 10,000 dangling crystals illuminating the restaurant.

The Plaza experience is pure magic.  Despite its reputation as one of the biggest and most exclusive hotels in Paris, it manages to retain a boutique feel.  There’s always a certain whisper of understated elegance that fills the air, staying at the Plaza gives you the feeling that you’re in on one of the best-kept secrets in Paris.
